Club rules

Opening hours

Dependent on the weather, the courts are open from early April until November. They are available for play from 9am on weekdays and Saturdays and from 10am on Sundays.

Occasionally the courts have to be closed due to bad weather.

All courts must be swept after use.

Play on courts

Please refer to the court planner diary which details when the courts are busy for league matches and coaching.

Shoe tags

Members, on renewing their membership, or on joining as a new member, will be issued shoe tags by the Membership Secretary. These indicate the category of membership, and must be worn/carried when playing or using the Club’s facilities. Members of the Committee will check these on an ad hoc basis during the season.

Dress code

The wearing of traditional ‘whites’ is not necessary. However all members, and guests, MUST wear appropriate tennis footwear – that is, with no ridges on the sole. The court surface can be badly damaged if unsuitable footwear is worn. Players will be asked to stop playing should inappropriate footwear be worn.

Etiquette

If there are members waiting to play, singles players should finish a set and invite the waiting players to join in for doubles. When players are waiting, members must play short sets and should not play singles. Adults playing with Juniors (11-17) have the same rights. If Juniors (5-10) are playing and adult members are waiting, the Juniors (5-10) should move to the upper court.

Doubles players should complete a short set appropriate to the number of people waiting to play to allow mixing in.

Members playing on the courts when other members are waiting should ensure that the maximum waiting time is half an hour.

Juniors

Juniors have the same rights as Senior members Monday to Friday until 6.00pm and will give way to Senior members at all other times. However, Juniors can play on the courts when playing with a Senior member.

Junior members can sign in other Juniors but cannot sign in adult guests.
Responsibility for the safety and behaviour of Juniors under 11 years lies with their parents/guardians.

Visitors and guests

The Club welcomes guests and hopes that once they have had the opportunity of using the facilities they might decide to join.

The fee per visitor/guest is £5. There is a Visitor sheet on the noticeboard where you should sign in your member.

Guests must be signed in before you play.

Guest fees should either be paid by cheque and left in the clear plastic pocket in an envelope or paid to a member of the Committee within one week of the guest playing. Please do not leave the money in the plastic pocket. There is also a facility to pay Guest fees via PayPal through the club’s website.

Each member may invite 12 guests per year. The same guest can play a maximum of TWICE in any month. There is no restriction on the number of guests you can invite on any one occasion provided your total in one year does not exceed 12.

It is the responsibility of individual members to ensure that guests are signed in on the Visitor list on the noticeboard.

Junior members can sign in other Juniors but cannot sign in adult guests.

Random court checks and fees paid will be carried out by the Committee and members asked for payment of fees where these do not appear to have been made.

As a member, you have a right to ask players whether they are a member and, if they are not, whether they have been signed in. All guests must play with a member.

General

All members are asked to help keep the Courts and Clubhouse (including the kitchen) clean and tidy.

If you are the last person to leave the courts, please make sure the clubhouse and the gate to the club grounds are closed properly.

Smoking is not permitted in either the club grounds or clubhouse.

Members are expected to behave with due regard and show consideration to other members and neighbours of the tennis club.

Non adherence to the rules

Any members not adhering to these Rules will be required to explain their non-compliance to the Committee.
